A one-way rainforest trek into the backcountry

Overview

If you are looking for a longer hike in the Hoh Rain Forest than the 0.75 mile Hall of Mosses or 1.25 mile Spruce Nature Trail loops, then begin your trek on the 17.4 mile Hoh River Trail for a day-hike or multi-day backpacking trip. The first 13 miles of the Hoh River Trail are flat, as you hike alongside towering old-growth sitka spruce trees, moss-laden big leaf maple trees, and several sweeping vistas of the Hoh River valley. Our favorite out and back is a 10.6 mile roundtrip visit to Five Mile Island. There are multiple wilderness camping locations along the Hoh River Trail, as backpackers trek to the Seven Lakes Basin Loop or Glacier Meadows, the basecamp for climbing Mount Olympus. The Hoh River Trail is also home to what is considered the quietest square inch in the United States.
